Action Builder For Organizing & Research

Workshop Description:

Action Builder is a digital tool built by organizers, for organizers to track data from one on one conversations, visualize campaign strength and progress, and collaborate with worker leaders to have conversations at scale.

In this workshop, you’ll first learn the basics of how to set up a campaign within Action Builder and leverage the customizable features of the tool to capture campaign progress. This hands-on workshop will provide the opportunity to manipulate sample data, create your own sandbox campaign, and explore the built in data visualization functions of the tool.

We’ll also explore how to use Action Builder’s customizable features to create a research database that is easily accessible to organizers. You are welcome to bring any spreadsheets of sample research data to use in a sandbox database.

Workshop Leader:

Shelly Wen (she/her/hers) is the Senior Organizing Data Strategist in the Data, Analytics, and Infrastructure Resource (DAIR) department at the AFL-CIO. Shelly began organizing as a Chemistry teacher and union activist. Then, she transitioned to be a full-time union staffer where she negotiated contracts, led strikes, and organized charter schools. In her current role, she uses her organizing skills and experience to strategize with AFLCIO affiliates on how to best use Action Builder.
