Staffing a Strike Panel Discussion

The US labor movement is in the midst of a strike wave, and union researchers are staffing them. In an era of decreased union staff, researchers and other staff are increasingly called to participate actively in managing picket lines, keeping member engaged, and generally ensuring that when we strike, we win–in addition to all of the fast turnaround research questions which arise during these critical worker actions. Join this panel format discussion with staff from three key striking unions representing the writers’ strike (WGAW), graduate student workers strike at UC (UAW Local 2865), and Starbucks workers (Workers United Western States Regional Joint Board). Topics of discussion will include preparing for a strike, staffing a picket line, keeping members engaged during a strike, responding to quick research needs, and advice about how to staff your own union’s strikes and other actions.
