Building Effective Working Relationships With Organizers
Workshop Description:
Moving people to action is the art of strategy and tactics in action. Unions that focus on organizing build internal capacity and achieve tangible goals. Good research and actionable information are the energy that fuels impactful campaigning. All researchers and organizers need to regularly refuel to get campaigns to reach full flight. The session will address coordination and communication expectations from both the researcher and organizer perspectives. Experienced organizer Todd Crosby and experienced strategic researcher David Welker will lead a session on how to best align research and organizing at each phase of a campaign to set up success.
Workshop Leaders:
David Welker was trained in corporate research and strategic campaigns at the FAST Dept./AFL-CIO. Over 30 years he has had research, communications and campaign directors jobs on multiple campaigns under both federal and state labor law. He ran the international FEDEX organizing campaign at the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. He was the charter school research lead at both AFT and NEA. Most recenlty he was the UFCW International Union Stragegic Resources Department Director until 2021.
